English version
As in the main european cities the development of the industrial activities is guaranteed in Catania and in its province by the availability of a territory having a specific vocation to that aim, whose management has been entrusted by means of a Regional Law to the not-economic public corporate body "Consorzio per l'Area di Sviluppo Industriale di Catania" (Consortium for Industrial Development Area of Catania).
The activity of the Consortium, which has been operating since 1963, concerns all the initiatives to facilitate and promote the establishment of industrial enterprises in the areas of its relevance. The mission of Consortium is to assign, at a "cut-price", the plots to the companies having the right qualifications to settle down in the industrial area, to realize the basic infrastructure, to provide companies with a set of services in order to allow them to operate in optimum working conditions.
The three industrial areas of relevance to the Consortium (Catania, Belpasso and Paterno') cover an area of approximately 2600 hectares. As a whole they constitute the largest industrial area in Sicily and one of the largest in southern Italy. The three industrial areas are located in the middle of a district very suitable for mobility, having nearby a modern airport, the port of Catania, highway and railroad networks. As a result of this and due to the existence in the industrial area of prestigious universities, research centers, financial institutions, along with the pleasant mediterranean climate and the entrepreneurial practice of Catania people, the Consortium represents an important opportunity for the development of highly innovative companies.
